ABOUT PHIL MATTSON

Phil Mattson has been one of the most influential conductors and music educators in vocal jazz and choral music for the past 30 years. Phil was my first, and original mentor (since age 17), and I am happy to now consider him to be like family.

In 2015 Phil, an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast, was struck from behind while at a stoplight in Minneapolis. Though he is now around 80 years old and in a wheel chair, he STILL is playing piano, writing arrangements, and conducting vocal jazz ensembles.  Phil you are an inspiration!
