ABOUT CLARE WHEELER
Clare Wheeler is a vocalist, composer, vocal and instrumental group arranger, teacher and workshop leader. She grew up in Kenya and studied at Chethams School of Music, as violinist and singer before later changing her course of study to traditional and jazz vocals in addition to composition at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 2006 Clare graduated with a BMus(Honours.)
Before becoming a member of the 5 time Grammy winning vocal group The Swingles in 2007, Clare was a music theory and harmony instructor at the Academy of Contemporary Music. During that time she performed with the Swingles, wrote music and made albums for eleven years, and had the chance to work with notable artists such as Rumer, Jamie Cullum and Labrinth, in addition to performing at some of the world’s most notable music venues and working with legendary conductors.
She served as a guest host of BBC Radio 2’s show The Choir, and served as vocal coach and arranger for the BBC One show Pitch Battle in 2017, working in the final with vocal group Scot Soul and legendary artist Chaka Khan.
Clare is a prolific writer for vocal groups, delivers workshops and masterclasses, and works as adjudicator for a cappella competitions internationally. She currently resides in Guildford, UK, with her husband Nick Girard and son Isaac.
